Championship leader Yevan David took his first pole in the Euroformula Open ahead of Race 1 today at Spa-Francorchamps, in a typically chilly Ardennes morning. The Sri Lankan driver had a perfect final attempt, stopping the clock in 2.08.762 and beating teammate Joss Garfias, who had led most of the session, by 0s488.
“Great to be at Spa and great to take my first pole”, said Yevan, “Perfect work and strategy and perfect execution from the team and myself. Let’s see how things will develop in the races, although anything can happen at Spa.”
Team Motopark planned a perfect strategy, with their cars and drivers towing each other, and that gave the German squad a top four, with Michael Shin (+0s624) and Diego de la Torre (+0s723) taking row-2.
The first non-Motopark contender was Tymek Kucharczyk, in the BVM Racing Dallara 324, fifth (+1s080) and still struggling with overall car balance. That was also the case for the Nielsen Racing cars, whose best representative was Shawn Rashid, ninth but 2s874 from the top.
