Race 2 at Spa this morning was certainly one of the most entertaining Euroformula races in recent times. On a drying track, there was a lot of action, close duels, and drama. The final result, though, showed a familiar face on the top step of the podium: Motopark’s Enzo Yeh took his second win of the weekend, the fourth this season, to further strengthen his championship lead. He beat the duo of Mexicans composed of Javier Herrera (BVM) and Jesse Carrasquedo (Motopark).
Lorenzo Castillo (Motopark) was sitting in pole on the reversed grid, ahead of Famularo (BVM) and the Drivex duo, Fiorentino and Trappa. While Famularo stalled at the green light, Castillo jumped the start (and would later get a 5-second penalty) and was passed by Trappa at Les Combes, with Yeh already third (from eighth) at the end of the first lap, ahead of Forentino, Herrera, de la Torre, Stack and Carrasquedo.
Still, the fight in the leading group was fierce and in lap 2, Yeh took the lead (“I certainly had a good pace”, he said at the end of the race), with Stack second (but soon forced to serve a drive-through for an incorrect intervention on his car on the grid). In these lively phases, there were contacts between De la Torre and Carrasquedo, and Keller and Fiorentino, while Feldmann stopped along the track with a smoking engine, and De la Torre, Koller and Dobrzanski pitted to gamble on slick tyres.
By mid-race, Yeh had a huge gap on Herrera, Carrasquedo, Nandan (who had climbed well from the back), Trappa, Stack and Castillo. The duels were not over and the last noticeable feat was a contact between Stack and Trappa at Les Combes, when fighting for fifth, with both cars damaged and dropping positions. This allowed a consistent Ferrazzano to take fifth behind Yeh, Herrera, Carrasquedo and Nandan.
