In what is again a very warm daya t the Hungaroring, Tymek Kucharczyk (BVM Racing) took pole position, his third of the season. In front of quite a lot of fans having travelled from his nearby home land, the young Pole posted a time of 1.34.159, confirming the dominant pace he had since the start of the weekend. “Frankly, all is going really well here since Thursday”, he admitted, “and I hope we can continue like this”.
In truth, despite the BVM driver being stable in P1 since private tests on Thursday, gaps are narrow. In the final phases of this morning’s qualifying session, Michael Shin (Motopark) managed to steal P1 for a short while, but Kucharczyk responded posting two consecutive pole laps at the very end.
Shin could not keep P2, as his Motopark teammate and standings leader Yevan David stole the second spot on first row with a time that left him 0s079 from Kucharczyk.
Fourth-fastest was Joss Garfias (+0s278), while three other Motopark drivers (Stack, Barrichello and de la Torre) following. Local hero Benjamin Berta (BVM Racing) proved fast but a small mistake in sector two in his best attempt left him in P8. “I am still familiarizing with the Dallara 324, which is different from the 320, but I’m sure we can do better, and I hope to show it in the races”, he commented.
It was a more difficult session for the Nielsen Racing drivers, with the trio closing the session’s standings.
