Riu-heng Yeh took another dominant win in the Euroformula Open in Race 1 at the Hockenheimring. It’s the seventh success of the year for the Taipei driver of Team Motopark, allowing him to extend his lead in the standings to 85 points.
The day didn’t start in the best way for Yeh, as he lost the duel for the pole against his teammate Jesse Carrasquedo after a small mistake, but in the race, things got decided basically at the first corner. Yeh had a better launch and despite a ‘closing’ attempt by the Mexican, he took the lead and went away.
“I had a very good start, and from there I could control the race”, said Yeh. Carrasquedo, who by his own admission had put off the perfect lap in qualifying (“Frankly, there is nothing I could have done better”), never got to threaten Yeh for the win, although margins remained very narrow.
Diego de la Torre completed the all-Motopark podium after gaining three positions in the first two laps. Action was hot behind the leading trio: Dbrzanski, who was third at the end of the first lap, got passed by De la Torre and Famularo, and then in lap 4, got tangled in a three-way contact with Koller and Castillo. With a damaged car, he conceded one more position to Castillo, crossing the line in seventh ahead of Weug.
Famularo, fourth, was the best of the BVM Racing stable, which lost Herrera before the race even started after an engine sensor problem sent him into the pits at the end of the formation lap. Koller took a good fifth position after a good qualifying (third) and a solid race, which also yielded the Rookie Trophy win.
