Tymek Kucharczyk took pole position, his second of the season, in the drizzle of the qualifying session this morning at the Hockenheimring. The Polish driver of BVM Racing set a time of 1.32.851 on slick tyres, and was even surprised by being at the top of the ranking. “I didn’t expect it, to be honest, given the conditions and the fact it is my first time here, but everything went well. We’ll see what will happen later, considering also the changing weather conditions”, he explained.
It was though a very closely-fought session, with Diego de la Torre (Motopark) finishing second, only 0s091 behind. The young Mexican beat teammates Michael Shin (+0s532) and Yevan David (+0s559), with the championship leader not completely at ease on this track, while Ed Pearson (+0s875) fifth and first among the Nielsen Racing drivers.
The tricky conditions surprised Joss Garfias (Motopark), who went out into the gravel early in the session, prompting a red flag.
