Kucharczyk (BVM Racing) takes dominant win ahead of many fans and reopens the title fight

Tymek Kucharczyk took a dominant win in the heat in Race 1 at the Hungaroring. It’s the third success of the Polish driver of BVM Racing, who beat Motopark’s Joss Garfias and Everett Stack, who took their respective fourth and second podium finish of the season.

For Kucharczyk, it was a great day, initiated with pole position, in front of numerous fans that came to cheer for him from nearby Poland. “It was not easy because of the heat, but things worked well for me and it is nice to see so many Polish flags around. It is also good to relaunch my championship fight, as my drivals had a more difficult day”, he commented.

Indeed, championship leader Yevan David could only finish eighth, with Michael Shin crossing the line in fourth. Ahead of tomorrow’s two races, the Sri Lankan has a 10-point advantage on the Korean and 11 on the Pole, with the games more open than ever.

Kucharczyk started from the pole for the third time, in a grid where David, Shin and Barrichello lost positions after the deletion of their best lap times for a timing infringement. At the start, the Pole pulled away ahead of Garfias and de la Torre, while David was passed by Stack for fourth and Shin made a great kick-off from eight, stealing fourth at the end of lap one.

After five laps, Kucharczyk has a 4-second advantage on Garfias and 6 on Stack, with Shin fourth ahead of de la Torre, David, Pearson, Barrichello, Berta, Rashid and Finn. As always at the Hungaroring, things did not change much given the difficulty for overtaking, except for David, who lost two positions to the advantage of Pearson and Barrichello, because of lack of power. His engine was to be checked after the race. The Sri Lankan finished eighth, with Berta and Rashid completing the top ten.
