Tymek Kucharczyk, the young Polish driver of BVM Racing, confirmed all the good shown yesterday in free practice and took the first pole position of the 2025 Euroformula Open, in a sunny morning at Portimão. Race 1 this afternoon will mark the inaugural race with the series’ new technical package, composed of the Dallara 324 car and the Tom’s engine.
Debuting in the series, the Pole posted a time of 1.36.272, after leading most of the session. He commented: “It’s nice to start on the right foot despite having discovered the Dallara 324 last week. I didn’t have much time to familiarize with it, but I immediately had a good feeling with it and the team is doing a very good job. Let’s see what w can do this afternoon but definitely I want to make the best out of this season!”.
In a last-minute effort, Motopark’s Yevan David, took second-fastest (+0s226), stealing the other position in front row from Ed Pearson, in one of the cars of debuting squad Nielsen Racing. The Brit had a troubled start of the session, with ignition problems, but once he got going, he proved very fastn setting a time of 1.36.693, which meant provisional pole. Eventually, he finished the session in third (+0s421), as Kucharczyk and David improved.
Sharing second row will be Mexico’s Diego de la Torre (Motopark, +0s501), who had an excellent session, while third row will be shared by two other Motopark drivers, Michael Shin (+0s585) and Joss Garfias (+0s594).
