Championship leader asserted his status ahead of Race 1 at the Red Bull Ring taking pole position in this morning qualifying session, held in sunny and warm conditions.
The pole driver of BVM Racing posted a time of 1.23.501, beating Mchael Shin (Motopark) by a minimal margin, 0s054. The Korean led a part of the session but could not resist the final assault of Kucharczyk, who was clearly happy with his fifth pole in six events: “It all went well and felt very comfortable with the car. I have not a lot of experience of the Red Bull Ring, but I enjoy it very much. It’s a great track to drive and being in this magnificent setting makes the sensation even greater.”
In second row will be two other Motopark drivers, Yevan David (+0s086) and Diego de la Torre (+0s220), while the fourth in contention for the title, Joss Garfias, will start from P5, with Everett Stack (+0s422) completing the top Motopark quintet.
The best-place in the grid among the four rookie drivers debuting in Austria is BVM’s Alessandro Famularo (+0s809), with the Venezuelan recovering well from the turbo issue encountered yesterday and able to precede the best of the Nielsen Motorsport cars, the one of Ed Pearson (+0s917).
