The great moment has arrived: next weekend the Euroformula Open will open a new, exciting chapter in its 17-year-long life, inaugurating the era of the Dallara 324 and of the Tom’s engine from this season, which kicks off as customary at the beautiful Autódromo do Algarve in Portimão.
The new technical package brings the Euroformula Open to new heights. Incorporating the latest chassis, safety, and aerodynamics evolutions in the sector, the 324 is the newest car in this segment designed and produced by Italian specialist Dallara, while the TGE33, the turbocharged 1.6 cylinder engine by Tom’s represents also the best powertrain in terms of costs/performance. With an output of 268 hp for 610 kgs (driver included), the new package retains all the racing strengths of its predecessor, also thanks to the excellence of the Pirelli tyres, another key official partner of the series.
Portimão will only be the start of a new, exciting journey. Twelve cars have been delivered so far and will be competing in Portugal, with a couple more joining soon and 6 more units expected during the summer.
The Euroformula Open proposition continues to offer its well-known strengths, with a 3-race event format, 8 rounds on prestigious and F.1-graded tracks, and a top-level TV production.
Ahead of this important 2025 season, Jesús Pareja, CEO of GT Sport, commented: “We are excited and anxious to have the renewed Euroformula Open hitting the track. The past months have been intense but we are delighted to see that the timing has been respected and everything is in place. I want to thank all the partners involved in the process, from Dallara to Tom’s, Cosworth, and Le Mans Co., as well as our official suppliers, Pirelli and Panta, and everyone at GT Sport for their hard work”.
“The objective of our move was to modernize the Euroformula Open technical package and keep costs under control without compromising the performance and racing excellence levels that were the landmarks of our series”, Pareja added. “The first response from the track and the market is very positive, despite the tremendous competition among single-seater formulae. I am confident that this first season with the Tom’s-powered Dallara 324 will prove that we can achieve our goal and keep the Euroformula Open in a special position in the motorsport pyramid.”
GREAT INTERNATIONAL PRESENCE
With four teams in the starting blocks and drivers joining from four different continents, the 2025 Euroformula Open is consistent with its tradition of attracting young talents from all over the world. They will be hopeful to follow in the footsteps of current stars in F.1 (Carlos Sainz, Yuki Tsunoda, Liam Lawson, Jack Doohan) and IndyCar (Alex Palou, Colin Herta, Louis Foster, Devlin DeFrancesco) whose career path has gone through the Euroformula Open, not to mention the many others present at F.2, WEC and GT level.
Time now to review who is who in the entry list for Round 1.
Team Motopark will again have a 6-car presence this season, confirming its strong commitment to the series. The German squad led by Timo Rumpfkeil is fielding a strong line-up, which sees a mix of returning drivers and new faces.
Four are the drivers with some degree of experience in the series, have a solid single-seater background, and aim at fighting for top honours.
South Korea’s Michael Shin (19), last year took part in four EF events, clinching two wins and three other podium finishes.
Yevan David (17), pushed by an entire nation relatively new to motorsport such as Sri Lanka, also had an impressive debut in the series last year as he took two wins in the only event, the last, he took part in.
Joss Garfias (20) from Mexico attended three events, conquering one pole and four podium finishes.
Fernando Fefo Barrichello (19), the son of Rubens, is a different case as he campaigned the entire season, his first at this level of completion, storming to a dominant win in the Rookies’ Trophy and taking five overall podium finishes, including a sensational maiden win at the Red Bull Ring in the wet.
Debuting in the Euroformula Open will be the two other drivers of Motopark. Everett Stack (19) from the United States joins from the F.Regional Middle East and Americas, while Diego de la Torre (18), the second Mexican in the championship, who has experience in South American, Euro and Italian F.4.
Nielsen Racing is the great novelty on the starting line of the 2025 Euroformula Open. The British squad, acclaimed for its many successes in sportscars, namely LMP2, is expanding to single-seater formulae and has opted for the Euroformula Open, a series that Team Principal Sven Thompson knows well, having worked in it in an earlier phase of his career.
The squad based in Corby enters three cars. One of its drivers, Briton Ed Pearson (17) already caused a great sensation in the two EF events he contested last year, conquering two podium finishes.
US racer Shawn Rashid, fresh from a winter campaign in the F.Regional Oceania, brings the experience gained in several series and in the GB3 most recently, while Briton Finn Green (22) joins from the F.Regional Middle East.
Faithful contender BVM Racing will again be a driving force in the series and is opening a new chapter in its history. The Italian squad led by Giuseppe Mazzotti is fielding two cars, which could soon be three, and two new drivers coming from Central Europe.
Poland’s Tymek Kucharczyk (19) caused a sensation when he drove in Spanish F.4 in 2022 and in GB3 last year, finishing third in both championships after fighting for the title up to the end.
Along him will be Russian-born Vladislav Ryabov (19), who took part in the last EFO two rounds of the season last year, scoring one win and another podium finish.
Finally, Paolo Brajnik, the evergreen Serbian racer, will continue to defy his younger rivals with the car of NV Racing and aim at Gold Cup successes.
