Diego de la Torre seems unstoppable: the Young Mexican of Motopark won a fantastic and closely-fought Race 1 at Monza, after a sensational charge from the back. “It’s great to win twice in a row”, said De la Torre, “and two races that could not be more different. At Hockenheim under the rain leading from the start, here under the sun after having to come back and some good fights. Crazy!”
It was indeed a very lively race, with drama since the start, as both Carrasquedo and De la Torre, sitting in row 1, stalled. Yeh took the lead ahead of Maccagnani, Herrera, Famularo and Kooler, while Dobrzanski and Koller finished their race after colliding at La Roggia. The safety car was briefly deployed, and shortly ater restart, Yeh locked his wheels at the first chicane leaving P1 to Maccagnani, with Herrera third battling hard with a group including Koolen, Ferrazzano and Famularo.
Maccagnani seemed in position to control the race, but towing allowed Yeh and Herrera to pass him at La Roggia in lap 6. Shortly after, it was the turn of Herrera to steal first place, with Maccagnani losing two more positions and dropping to fifth behind Famularo and Yeh.
The battle continued, even with some slight contact between De la Torre and Herrera, but the Mexican duel ended in favor of the former, with Famularo securing third ahead of Maccagnani and Koolen, who had passed Yeh. The first six were covered under the flag by only 2.8 seconds, a proof of how fierce and exciting to watch the race was.
