De la Torre-Carrasquedo, a Mexican duel for vice-champion honours to close the season at Barcelona

De la Torre-Carrasquedo, a Mexican duel for vice-champion honours to close the season at Barcelona

The 2026 season comes to an end, and the Euroformula Open is heading to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the grand finale, which is again taking place on the Catalan track as per a tradition interrupted for two years because of works at the venue. The 4.657-km track, technical and demanding, always offers great racing, and even more so this year, as the overall title has already been decided and there won’t be that additional pressure on anyone. Everything is set, though, for a lively final round for the Euroformula, galvanised by the recent announcements of Palou Motorsport and Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing as the first new teams to join the series for the 2027 campaign.

Rui-heng Enzo Yeh will wear the suit of 2026 Champion for the first time. The only objective for the Taipei driver of Team Motopark will be to enjoy the weekend and try to improve his impressive score of race wins, eight so far.

The battle for runner-up honours, though, is still open and will be spicy, as it involves two Mexican drivers, both with Motopark, who have been impressive in some moments of the season. Diego de la Torre, with 295 points, is second at the moment, but Jesse Carrasquedo, with 256 points, is still in the race, as 76 points are still to be awarded and both have only 1 point to drop as their third-worst result.

The other duel to be followed in Barcelona will be for the Rookies’ Trophy, and it will be a close one: BVM Racing’s Javier Herrera, another Mexican and the youngest full-season contender this year, has only a two-point advantage on Motopark’s Polish young gun Wiktor Dobrzanski.

The Motopark representation will include championship regulars Lorenzo Castillo and Jan Koller, while BVM Racing will field Venezuela’s Alessandro Famularo, currently fifth in the standings and Brazil’s Ricardo Miranda Baptista, in his second outing of the season, and Dutchman Niels Koolen, who debuted in the series at Monza with Motopark.

Neri Motorsport will aim at finishing on a high after a maiden season that has seen the French squad and its young Belgian driver, Aaron Ferrazzano, progressing tremendously.

Joining the last party will also be two very interesting guest drivers. At BVM Racing, Ary Bansal, the hope of India’s motor racing, will make his debut at this level of the competition and with the Tom’s-powered Dallara 324. At only 16, Bansal has been very successful at the F4 level, first in the GB4 and this year in the Italian F4 and the E4 series, clinching a final third in the former and three wins in total during the season.

On its side, Motopark is fielding China’s Yuhao Felix Fu (18), who joins from the GB3 and has previously been successful in Chinese F4 and other series.
