An inspired Fefo Barrichello gives 400th win to Motopark

Fernando Barrichello took a brilliant win in today’s Race 2 at the Circuit Paul Ricard, conquering his first success this year and giving Team Motopark the 400th win in the 26 years of history of the German squad. Fefo was clearly at the foot of the podium: “After so many set-backs this year, this time we had all the right cards in our hand and I could use them well.”

The race was definitely entertaining. Rookie Preston Lambert (BVM Racing) found himself in pole in the reversed grid and took an excellent kick-off, followed by Barrichello and Garfias. David climbed to fourth after some moves (and an off-track excursion) followed by Kucharczyk, De la Torre and Shin, and also the other rookie, Argentine Gino Trappa, showed great place climbing up to 7th. David soon started to attack Garfias but the duel ended with the Sri Lankan ramming the Mexican in turn 14, with both cars out of contention.

That left Kucharczyk in third, fighting with Lambert and Barrichello, with the three running very close. Three laps from the end, Barrichello put a perfect overtake from the outside in the pif-paf to take the lead and beat Lambert, author of a great race for his debut in the series, and Kucharczyk. Shin salvage a fourth, ahead of Stack, Pearson and Trappa.

After tis race the situation in the championship can’t be closer, with the three contenders within two points: David leads with 212, followed by Kucherczyk with211 and Shin with 210.
